Paris, je t'aime

The assignment was to film a love story set in one of the 18 neighborhoods of Paris with no two stories in the same district; time limit for each, five minutes. Twenty-one directors from around the world (three stories are co-directed) answered the challenge and the result is an omnibus of remarkable quality: "A gem" (the New York 'Times'); "delightful and enchanting, a valentine to the planet's most romantic city" ('USA Today'); "a perfect example of how a film can stir the soul" (the 'Wall Street Journal'); "an intimate, star-studded tour of Paris" ('Elle'). "The film is a delight," wrote the L.A. 'Daily News,' "but not a lightweight one. Many of these encounters strike deep emotional chords; a few are flat-out tragic." The list of filmmakers includes Joel and Ethan Coen, Tom Tykwer, Alfonso Cuaron, Gus Van Sant, and Gerard Depardieu. Among the actors are Steve Buscemi, Miranda Richardson, Juliette Binoche, Willem Dafoe, Nick Nolte, Bob Hoskins, Fanny Ardant, Maggie Gyllenhall, Natalie Portman, Ben Gazzara, and Gena Rowlands. (Mostly in French)
